Calorie AI
About Calorie AI
Calorie AI is a calorie tracking app for iOS and Android. You say, type or photograph what you ate, and the app estimates the calories and macros for you. It is built and run by me, Josef Wilhelm, an app developer in Vienna, Austria. My apps appear in the stores under the name Digital Snacks.
Why the app exists
Most people who stop counting calories don't stop because the math is hard. They stop because searching a database for every meal gets tedious. Calorie AI tries to make logging a meal take a few seconds, so you keep doing it long enough to learn something from it.
How the estimates work, and their limits
What you say, type or photograph is sent to an AI model (OpenAI), which estimates calories, protein, carbs and fat. These are estimates, not lab values: portion sizes, cooking oil and recipes vary, and the app can only work with what you tell it. For trends over a week they are useful; for medical diets, follow your doctor or dietitian. Which data goes where is listed in the privacy policy.
How the articles on this site are made
The blog and the calorie database are written with the help of AI and published under my responsibility. Articles signed “CalorieAI Team” come from me and those AI tools. New and reworked articles link the formulas and figures they use to their sources, such as studies or official nutrition bodies, so you can check them yourself; older articles are being reworked the same way. Nutrition values are typical averages. If you find a mistake, please tell me and I will fix it.
